Friday 8 August 2003, Stad De La Maladiere, Neuchâtel Xamax vs FC Zürich. Xamax won 2-1; 8,200 attendance. Neuchâtel is in the French region of Switzerland and is a beautiful lakeside town worth a visit alone. In peaceful, ‘neutral’ Switzerland note the cages & barbed wire to segregate the away fans! They’re the ones letting off the flares & smoke bombs, it makes for an incredible atmosphere. Why can’t we have flares and smoke bombs at our games?...Hmm, I think I know the answer to that one already… NM
