Note I visited Church Road for the first time for an FA Cup tie with Langney Sports (now Eastbourne Borough) in 1999, and despite losing by the odd goal on a very heavy pitch, the ground made a favourable impression on me. Of particular interest were the gents’ loos which were next to the home dressing room, meaning that one was ‘privy’ (awful pun I know) to the Whyteleafe team talk! The Leafe made the first round proper that season and added a temporary stand for the visit of Chester City - they drew 0-0 but lost the replay.
The pics on this page were taken in 2003, and in the intervening years the large seated stand behind the near goal had been completed, along with further improvements. There is further cover on all for sides, including the more interesting older stand on the car park side of the ground. In many ways, Church Road is a typical Isthmian League venue, tucked away in a pleasant leafy environment on the very fringes of the Surrey borders. DB
