Note Thetford Town FC was founded in 1883 and has played at Mundford Road since 1905, having previously played at Abbey Heath until 1900 and then Meadowland for five years. Until the late 1960s the ground was shared with cricket, and what appears to be an old cricket pavilion still stands at the far end of the near touchline. The slightly unsual concrete and timber stand, with its curved roof and broad wooden fascia, seats around 400 spectators on wooden steps. It dates from 1946, and the clubhouse lies immediately behind. Adjacent to the stand are a couple of areas of shallow terrace, whilst the traditional sunken dugouts are in front. Like the remainder of the ground however, these were somewhat the worse for wear in August 2004 when these photographs were taken. On the far side of the pitch is what remains of a covered terrace. This is of uncertain age and when I visited, only the corrugated iron rear wall, and timber frame was still standing The floodlights date from 1988. DB
