Note Always on the lookout for a new ground, I spotted the Stanley Jones Memorial Ground out of the corner of my eye en route to Maidenhead United along the A4. The ground is located off Berry Hill, which is a turning on the right off the A4 just past Taplow railway station, with a Harvester restaurant and garage also close by. United were known as Old Paludlians until 1998 (evidence of this is on a sign on the clubhouse wall) and played in the Chiltonian League until it was absorbed into the Hellenic League in 2000. I can only imagine that factors other than facilities played a part in the club not joining as the ground is on a par with many in the new lower Hellenic divisions. It is railed with a couple of rather flimsy metal dugouts (the roof of one was missing). There is no spectator cover but the clubhouse looked OK and there were also reasonable parking facilities. For those interested in such things, the club also issues a decent programme. DB
