Note One of a number of clubs in the heart of the Cornish China Clay area featured on this website (others include Bugle Orient, Foxhole Stars, and Nanpean Rovers),

The club was formed in 1903 and played on a number of pitches until Whitegates (referred to as “Boscawen Park” by Kerry Miller) was created from an area of wasteland in 1952. The clubhouse (which I didn’t photograph for some reason) was opened in 1972 by Lord Falmouth and is situated inside the main gate, behind the near goal of the main pitch.

The playing area was recovering from having hosted the local village fair when I visited (with piles of manure as evidence of this), and I was joined by two locals trying to recover their car from the locked ground, having left it there in an inebriated state the night before. No problems for me however, as I climbed over the gate. The ground is fairly basic, as one might expect at this level of the Pyramid, but there are two pitches with post & wire perimeters, both of which have dugouts. Those on the near pitch are painted in black & white. Evidence of the local industry can be seen in the distance. DB
