Whickham vs Chadderton. FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round, 1 October 2005, Glebe Sports Ground. Score 5-1. Attendance 68.
Having dashed up from Consett, I arrived just as the second half got underway in time to see the home side (stripes) take a 3-0 lead. The Glebe Sports Ground is shared with cricket and is therefore of the three-sided variety, with the stand situated behind the near goal. There was only one side in it although Chadderton from the NW Counties League got a late consolation. I got the impression that Whickham is a rather affluent suburb of Gateshead (cue hilarious laughter from any locals reading this) and the three delightful tea ladies who provided me with a very welcome pie would not be out of place at a WI meeting or as volunteers for the WRVS at my local hospital back in genteel Eastbourne.
