Snapshots - Wealden FC

Wealden v Oakwood. Sussex County League Division Two, 3 January 2005, The Oaks. Score 5-2, Attendance 92.
A fixture noteworthy for the fact that the names of the respective clubs gives no indication of their geographical location, and both share the same nickname! For the record, Oakwood are based in Crawley; whilst Wealden (in navy) play at their attractive Oaks ground just outside Uckfield. Quite an even first half (1-1) until Oakwood decided that they wouldn’t defend in the second 45 minutes! The Oaks enjoys a pleasant rural setting and is tucked away behind the Rajdutt Indian restaurant on the Old Eastbourne Road. There is a handy bank behind the far goal but I was the only spectator interested in taking advantage of it on this occasion. Apparently floodlights should be in place later in 2005. DB.
