Tunbridge Wells vs East Grinstead Town. FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round, 9 September 2006, Culverden Stadium. Score 3-2.  Attendance 102.
A cross-county local derby at a ground that is a particular favourite of mine. On last seasonís form The Wells (in red), who reached the QF stage of the Vase and who are a Step higher in the Pyramid would have been strong favourites to progress. However, they had yet to pick up a point going into this match, at it showed during the first half. One elderly home fan was shouting so much with frustration that his dentures fell out and he had to go on to the pitch to retrieve them! EG took the lead with just over half an hour played, and extended it soon after half-time. The home side kept plugging away however, and after pulling one back mid-way through the second half began to realise that they were still in the tie. An equaliser finally came five minutes from the end, with a dramatic winner following deep in stoppage time. Incidentally, if you happen to visit Culverden Stadium, have a bacon baguette - even if you are a vegetarian, they are so delicious you may be converted back to meat! DB
