Eastbourne Borough vs Lewes. Conference South, 26 December 2006, Priory Lane Stadium. Score 2-1. Attendance 1,148
Although there are three Sussex clubs in Conference South (Bognor Regis Town is the other), Borough vs Lewes is very much the local derby, due to their relative proximity. Despite the rivaly not having any real historical basis, with Eastbourne having arrived via the Southern League and Lewes by way of the Isthmian; the opposing sets of supporters take it very seriously and any meeting between the two clubs is invariably a highly charged affair, played in a cracking atmosphere. This game was was no exception.

Although usually confined to the PA anouncers’ box for Borough home games, I managed to engineer an ‘escape’ to the touchlines with my camera for the first half, to ensure ‘my’ club is featured in the Snapshots section of PP.

For the second year running Borough (red) took the seasonal bragging rights for just under a week before the re-match at Lewes on New Year’s Day. A Scott Ramsay strike put the ‘Sports’ (a reference to their earlier incarnation as Langney Sports FC) ahead on the stroke of half-time, before adding a second from the penalty spot five minutes from time. Jamie Cade pulled one back for the Rooks three minutes later to ensure a frenetic finish. DB
