Note Formerly Newton Abbot Dynamos until dropping the suffix in 1979, Newton Abbot FC was originally founded in 1964 as a youth team. Part of the first season was spent at Sandringham Park Recreation Ground until the club found a ‘temporary’ home at the Centrax Company Sports Ground ... where they remained for 24 years!  In 1989 the club resigned from the SW League and moved to their current home in Coach Road, becoming founder members of the Devon County League in 1992: finishing runners-up and Champions in the first two seasons.

Although the Coach Road ground boasted little more than a battered pavilion in the early days, it has since been transformed into a fine venue that is also the HQ of the Devon FA, whose smart building (which also houses the dressing rooms) stands behind the near goal, with the refurbished clubhouse adjacent. However the focal point is the splendid seated stand along the near touchline, with its elevated position afording spectators an excellent view. For those not wishing to sit, grass banking part-way around the pitch is a fine alternative in good weather. When I visited during the summer of 2005, a wedding reception was in full swing and what sounded very much like a music festival was clearly audible in the surrounding fields. DB
