Note As Peter Miles acurately notes in his Homes of Non League Football Victoria Park has gained cult status among ground aficionados, and justifiably so for it is among the most unusual football grounds in the UK.

Nanpean is in the heart of the Cornish china clay industry and, although it appears older, the ground was created in 1936 from from a former quarry, with the resulting banking creating a natural ampitheatre. At either end are small shelters, one of which (below) reminded me of the sort of Victorian folly one finds at many National Trust properties. There are dugouts on either side of the pitch and popular hoppers’ ritual of wandering around the ground is made more enjoyable by the pathways that run around the ground’s perimeter. There is a good size car park and pavilion which doubles as a memorial to the local men killed during WW2, with their initials carved on granite slabs between the dressing room doors. DB
