Note The Sports Ground was originally home to AFC Lymington, formed in 1988 from an amalgation between Lymington Town FC and Wellworthy Athletic FC. There was a cricket and football pavilion on the site that dated from 1913 and was eventually destroyed by fire in 1968. A wooden grandstand was opened in 1929 and saw service until 1989, when it was replaced by the current low metal structure along the far touchline. Floodlights were erected in 1981. Having to share the facilities with cricket, plus the relatively poor changing room conditions saw AFC Lymington relocate to Fawcett’s Field, home of New Milton Town FC when the two clubs joined to form Lymington & New Milton FC in 1998; with a new Lymington Town club taking over the Sports Ground.
Today the long brick and metal stand, with its predominantly bench seating and replendent in the club’s red and white colours, remains the only structure on the site, save for the dugouts opposite. DB
