Note I knew very little about the Dorset version of Holt United before popping along to their ground in Petersham Lane near Wimborne, en route to watch the mighty Eastbourne Borough lose at Weymouth. However, having seen the ground it came as no surprise to learn that they had finished as champions of the Dorset Premier League twice in the past three seasons, including by an eleven point margin in 2005/06.

For its level in the Pyramid Petersham Lane is very well appointed and it is clear that a lot of pride has been taken over the development of the ground. There is a basic yet quite stylish covered area for spectators behind the the near goal, within easy reach of the clubhouse just outside the entrance. At first glance the structure mid-way along the far touchline looks like a small stand, but on closer investigation is a rather smart breezeblock structure incorporating the dugouts, with an area for club offcials in between. The unusual overhanging flat roof, and lettering on the fascia sets it off quite nicely, and matches the aforementioned cover behind the goal.

There were no floodlights when these photographs were taken, but this is quite a rural location with plenty of scope for further development. Possibly a club to keep an eye on.  DB
