Update to original note (below) In early 2006 BAT Sports FC were notified that their ground at Southern Gardens had been sold by the owners, British American Tobacco, for a housing development and that they had until September 2006 to vacate the site. Left without a ground and the means to groundshare elsewhere, the club sadly anounced that it would cease operations at the end of the 2005/06 season. However, a delay surrounding the sale of the ground handed the club a lifeline and Sports went back on their decision to fold, although because of the current indecision have dropped down from the Premier Division to Division Two of the Wessex League. DB (Sept 2006)
Originally called Bramtoco FC, BAT Sports was founded in 1925 from the workforce of the British American Tobacco Company. and vies with AFC Totton for the town’s support. The Club has been at its attractive, well maintained ground in Southern Gardens since 1929. The football pitch is set a little way from the large clubhouse, behind the cricket pitch and is a pleasant venue. There is a stand with a capacity of about 200 on benches (except for committee members naturally) along the near touchline, with a couple of picnic tables nestling underneath the trees behnd the near goal. There is a further small covered area, with a few steps of terracing (The Nick Read Stand) on the far side of the pitch DB
