Note There is a long history of football being played in Barwell with a number of clubs existing that include Barwell Swifts and Barwell United. The present Barwell FC was formed as recently as 1992 by the amalgamation of another club, Barwell Athletic and Hinckley FC. My visit to Kirkby Road was hindered somewhat by the fact that I was unable to get in! Hence the rather limited photographs taken over a fence with the help of a stepladder (no serious grounds visitor should be without one). The ground is set back behind the cricket club and has an indoor bowls hall behind one goal. Floodlighting dates from 1992, having previously seen service at Harrison Park in East Leicester, and at Enderby Town FC prior to that. All the cover is along one side, and I am pleased to say that Kirkby Road does at least demonstrate how to build a new stand that has decent elevation, allowing spectators a good view of the action.
